Remembering Mother

Thirty years ago, my mom’s cancer had come back. When she was uncharacteristically resting in the middle of the day, I was listening…

Mom was a care-taker.

A Congregational minister by trade, my mom wrote letters every day, sermons weekly, sent care packages to her adult children, cooked, visited and listened to all of us. She took care of her family, extended family, childhood friends, neighbors, her church . Her dying words to me were, “take care of yourself”. I wondered if with all her care-taking, she felt she neglected to care for herself.

My mom’s words took on more weight when I became a parent. You are familiar with this experience perhaps-caring for children, working and mostly simply surviving.

How do you take care of yourself?

Bedtimes in our house with young children was a struggle. Our kids resisted bedtime and both of our kids had cavities at early dentist appointments so we had to figure out how to pay close attention to the toothbrushing and stay focused on that task. Any reprieve we got from the nagging, resistance, reminders at bedtime was rare and golden. We created the Two Minute Turtle Timer to help us take care of ourselves.

Invented the Two Minute Turtle Timer

Inspired by the need to slow down each night, reduce the nightly struggles between kids and parents and with my mom’s last words still resonating, “take care of yourself”, I am delighted to bring the Two Minute Turtle Timer to you this Mother’s Day week. Honor our mothers by taking care…of ourselves and them!

This mom reviewed our Turtle Timer after she bought it and summed up why we created it nicely.

So this Mother’s Day the Two Minute Turtle Timer is designed for YOU and a mom you know. Now take good care of yourself, starting with even 2 minutes!
